The Abdominoplasty procedure, also called a Tummy Tuck, is a performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. An incision is then made horizontally along the lower abdomen–the size and shape of the incision may vary depending on the amount of skin being removed. Once the incision is made, the skin is lifted, revealing the abdominal muscles below and stretched out or loosened abdominal muscles are then repaired. Finally, the skin is re-draped and the excess skin removed, while the remaining skin is sutured close creating a smoother, more toned mid-section appearance.

The abdominoplasty procedure is sometimes performed in combination with liposuction when there also stubborn, excess fat in the area that has not responsive to diet and exercise.
